As I write this, there's a ID tag hanging in front of me. It adorns the otherwise almost bare walls of my hostel room : GN-231. I am immensely proud of the small piece of clear acrylic that holds a card saying Rachit in Hindi and English on the two sides.
It reminds of the bright eyed youth who came up to me today at the résumé camp (The third one I have been to. Piramal Foundation and Indicorps hold these at Bagar, a town about an hour away from Pilani) . Rotaract BITS Pilani has been volunteering at these regularly. We (Shravya, Jyothi, Anurag, Divya and I) had helped this chap with his résumé and given him interview tips during the first Bagar Career Fair. He remembered very vividly how I had suggested Google as the best possible starting point on the Net for any sort of information. I do not remember saying this .The fact is so obvious to us. We have the ability to bring about a change. It is just a question of wanting to bring about a change badly enough.
By the way, look out for Wrapper, the only Presentation competition on campus (organized by Rotaract BITS Pilani). This APOGEE Rotaract Presents ,You be the Presenter and make a Presentation on Students for Change to prove that Presentation does matter.
The bright eyed thank-you-sir-google-is-god chap was generous in heaping all credit on us for helping him land a decent job at Jaipur. I am sure none of this would have been possible without the untiring efforts of Piramal Foundation and Indicorps fellows [Apply to Fellowship Program 2008 now] like Ashish, Gagan, Radhika, Preeti, Naman etc. But, to have been a squirrel who helped someone, I am happier than even the lark. I might even be slightly high. I had once told someone doubting the impacts of these career fairs/ résumé camps that even if 1 person makes it, the effort is worth it. Slumber on a Sunday fades away in comparison to a family's livelihood.
